Last night someone called me and asked me how do I pick my blog topics...I had to tell the truth often times..there is no rhyme or reason.....sometimes I sit in a trance like state..and my husband asks..
"What's wrong?"
The truth is...its my blog topic...and its my thinking look when I am getting ready to write a blog post.
- Sometimes something occurs in the day..which triggers a blog post..
- Other times...it starts brewing in my head for days on end..and finally it gets put into a blog post.
- I tend to look up top searches and sometimes..top searches..equals awesome blog material.
- Entering contests...those writing assignment..help to make me a better blogger
- Other people's posts that are thought provoking..sometimes the comment alone is equivelent to a blog post.
- Social Networking information and building relationships makes for excellent posts..
- Writing about others...do I need to say it? Great material...
- I have many posts sitting in word.. sometimes I write in advance and sit on them...and when the time is right they emerge on my blog.
How do you pick blog topics? Do you put them in a notebook or do they just pop out of you????

Midori, for some reason when I am about to fall asleep I come up with , what I think, are great blog posts. Then when I wake up in the morning, I can't remember them!!! I need a note pad next to the bed. I think mine come from events of the day or a transaction I might be working on? I admire folks who can make anything into a post. I don't have that talent.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Ditto, Some thimes, most times an event triggers a thought which triggers a blog. Some times it is forward and not a reaction but that is rarer
Midori - you certainly have more resources. i only have my brain and raw emotion. stuff just churns around and then escapes through my fingers. i tried just doing quick notes and lost them or forgot them. so now, i just wander the halls of my mind, perusing input from the world out there...when the overflow alarm goes off, i sit down and begin typing. i do like blogging. i just seem to lack the discipline you and many others exhibit with your consistent pattern.
Midori - sometimes I will write several topics down, and think that I have it covered, but try to remain consistent.
Hi Midori, like you, I often will think of something, type it into word and sit on it until it feels right. I often get ideas from things I've read, comments left on my posts, and from conversations I have with many of my clients or things I notice about their business, struggles and successes. Your conversation with your husband sounds like the ones I have - he doesn't totally understand this whole blogging thing but he's trying. All I know is that your posts often get me thinking and I very much appreciate it. ~Anne Marie
I try to stick with subjects that are relevant to our local community. That way, I can take advantage of Localism much easier. It also helps keep me informed about the neighborhoods that I focus on.

Midori, I usually just wait for the inspiration and I keep a tablet handy to write down the thoughts as they come. Then when I have time I go back and either write about it or realize it was a really good glass of wine and better luck next time! I do find inspiration in the day to day and other's posts. I guess the ideas are all around but I have to be willing to accept them and DO something with them!
If something pops into my head that is worth a blog I make a note and put it near my laptop!
I usually go into the appropriate blog and start posts then save them as drafts so that I don't forget what I wanted to write about or what direction I was going with the topic. My posts tend to be either specifically about business or related to something that has happened during the day or something I've been thinking about based on other blog posts I've read.

Midori~Interesting question. My Blog posts come to me in many ways...some are public answers to questions I receive from individual owners or buyers that I think others can benefit from, some are "hot" topics that I just need to "vent" about, some are ideas that strike me when I'm sleeping (sad, I know ;0) and others are the result of information overload that I want to share with people about the Seminole County/Lake Mary area...My kids and my hubby even help me come up with good Blog materials...and so does my pooch...Elvis!
I most often think of topics while I'm driving, and then the challenge is to get them written down before my mind moves on.
Posts just surface....posts just happen....and sometimes posts are planned. That sounds like your method.
Hi Midori,
I enjoy reading you because your topics are so varied. One never knows where you will lead us. As for me, I don't post a lot often times I post relative to current happenings.
I'm always looking for new topics to blog about, but for those days when I'm dry I have a white board with a list of potential titles, topics, questions to answer...I find that the busier I am, the more I have to blog about!
I have to say when I am on a roll it just comes out in 15 minutes, when I think I "need" to write a post it takes HOURS to think of something to write about!!!
I never know in advance what I'm going to post about. It just comes to me on the fly and usually those are the better written ones.
When it comes to my neighborhood blog, I stick to subjects relevant to the neighborhood. When it comes to activerain, it's whatever is on my mind! Today it was proxy errors.
Midori, when I started out I was clueless. After a while I was slamming the consumer and now I see the blog world as organic and natural. Nice post!
LOL Midori we could only imagine the look on your face when your contemplating what to write about next. we face such a similar dilemna. We thank our topics on stumbleupon. You just have to apply yourself and moreover find out through searching on the network what people are interested to read more about. Those also tend to the blog topics that get featured more. You are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work associate!
Annapolis, Maryland-It is Sunday evening, August 23rd, 2009 and for the first time in almost 40 years, I am not getting ready to go to school tomorrow. Every year, no matter how much experience I gained, the week before school started, so did the nightmares. When I began to speak of this, I discovered that many teachers have dreams and nightmares the weeks before school starts. As school starts I am just completing 7 months as a realtor and so far no bad dreams on any sort. As the teachers and students go back to school this year, fond memories of great kids and encouraging teachers stay with me, but I am not going to be sad. I had a great career and am glad that my mom encouraged me to be a teacher because I was a good one. I now have dreams of becoming a great realtor. I have patience, creativity, and ambition. Life is a great adventure and I am ready to write the next chapter.
