The computer scientist and I were having a discussion about the consumer usage of web browsers and their preference. As I was talking with him I realized I have moments of being tech centric. You're probably wondering what I am talking about.
Are You Consumer Centric or Tech Centric?
Which web browser is your preference and do you ever take a look at your website and your blog in a browser you rarely use? If not you should. Based on the fact that Internet Explorer is number 1 with Mozilla Firefox number 2. I use Mozilla, which one do you use?
If you strictly use Google Chrome, Do you check your work on the others?
A while back I had a blog that would not open on Internet Explorer and I had no idea and one of my good friends emailed me. How did this happen? I never checked to make sure it was functioning properly in Internet Explorer a browser I rarely used!

Midori - I had been a user of IE for years before I finally found out about Firefox. Now I can't live without it. I only use IE for my MLS but I do check my website and blogs in other browsers since you never know what the consumer at the other end might be using.
great info and a better reminder.
... it will be interesting to see how google chrome ends up. I'm a true firefox user and only get mad everytime I am forced to us IE explorer. don't forget apple's safari is much loved by their users and opera is the best for phone access.
i'm anxious to see how the google wave viewer works and if it will be a standalone tool or simply be integrated with other sites -- I'm guessing it may push up the chrome usage.

I am also a Firefox user and get mad when I meet a Website that won't run on Firefox.... why should I be forced into IE? That being said, I code CSS using a great program called Stylizer, and it lets me switch between Firefox and IE so I can check that my code will work in both. At least the things I create will be available for both! (I think Safari follows Firefox code -- haven't had any complaints, anyway). Would that other sites would remember to check their own code...
OH GOD hahahha . . . but my godson/favorite nephew is an IT geek and he has been a very badgood influence . . .
Midori - I just switched over to using firefox. I'll have to say I like it much better than IE.
I am also a FF user, but I try to check my site in multiple browsers... We don't need to be limited by what our readers use, but we do need to be cognizant of it..
Whenever I design websites, I always verify that it works in both IE and Firefox. Google Chrome and Safari are other browsers that are becoming more important. It is also essential that websites be designed so that text reader software can read them and that colour schemes and text sizes be suitable for those people with vision difficulties.
I was a die hard internet explorer addict....and then the new, and not so improved version came out and it kept dying every couple minutes...while I have yet to fall in love with "The Fox"....it hasn't died while using it...and by the way....we had nachos and I fell asleep arranging bubbles....do you think that's a sign ?
Midori, I am usually in FF but occassionally more often now posting in Safari.
I never really use IE except for accessing my MLS. (grrrr))
I guess I could log on to IE and check but I hate to open myself up to spam and viruses.
I have had neither since switching to the Mac in December.
"Know the facts and check the stats" . So true Midori ! It is so hard to stay on top of all these "tech-centric" items but we do our best. It is exhausting but at the same time you learn a lot : ) . Hope all is well and look forward to the day when we meet at some AR gathering or RE conference !
I am a mozilla user and have never bothered to check how IE displays my "stuff."
Hi Midori,
I have recently started to use Mozilla Firefox and really like the features.
Great information thanks for posting.

I love google chrome. Practically full screen without going full screen. but like the rest am dragged back to the evil IE for Real Estate Sites
Midori -- I use Firefox and love it --- your post is great advice --- thanks for the reminder.
Firefox is my favorite, and I forget that not everybody uses it.......better go check out the other browsers.
