Yesterday I received an email from someone who is dying to blog but the problem is they feel they are not creative enough...
Do not know what to write about...nor have the confidence to write a post.
So they asked me what should I blog about on Activerain?
So I thought for those that are new...or even seasoned..here are a few topics that will help you to get read and fed..
And at the end hopefully a commission check and building strong business relationships!
Think local..your state..your city...your subdivisions
- The first time home buyer tax credit and where to get the information
- The dos and don't of buying or selling a short sales and foreclosures
- The steps in finding a home
- Mortgage and tax information
- Market Reports
- Steps in selling a home
- Investments, Investors and Investing
- Hiring the right REALTOR
- Questions consumers ask
- Your specialties
- Your farm area
- Inspections, appraisals and the mortgage process
- Home staging, clearing the clutter and increasing your chances of selling
- Local Businesses and experiences
- Interview local people, city officials, veterans, teachers and business owners
- Happenings meaning special events..most cities have monthly events such as baseball games, parades, fairs etc.
- Nite life, schools, family activities, clubs, organizations and houses of worship
- Historical sites...every city has them
- Important phone numbers and information such as the post offices, electric, water, cable, police..etc..etc.
- Important tax information and changes
- Real Estate Law changes
- Home Owners Associations, Condo Associations and city and county home owner's regulations
- Recycling, charities, schools, parks, vacation spots, beaches and lakes and rivers, local news, your affiliates, hobbies, things you do
- How to tips on blogging, social media, building business relationships

When I think of blogging I think of conversations..conversations that you would have face to face or over the phone...information that is pertinent for someone to make a real estate move in your area...pertinent to your business and pertinent to your goals.
And if you can't find the right words... post Photo's and video's and if you are still stumped..reblog baby and add your own personality!
I know that not everyone has the gift of gab..but I can assure you...by blogging..it will come to you...and become quite natural..so pick a topic.
Have a plan...and write...just write.

Lots of good ideas there, Midori. Where shall I start? Have a great week!
EVen us grizzled vets lose our ideas from time to time. Thanks for the 101.
Midori this great! My agents are always wondering what to write about and thinking they have nothing to say. This will be sooo helpful. I'll present it at tomorrow's sales meeting.
Thanks so much!
Anna Banana
That is a great list! My favorite was to always write about the fun & wacky experiences I had with clients. As we all know, each client relationship is different & unique. They always seemed to provide me with some great writing material!
Midori You are so right in that it is a conversation and I personally like a 50-50 mix of business and personal.
Great suggestions. When I'm looking for something to blog about, I can usually find an idea on our County website. They're always coming up with some new program that most local residents know nothing about. Once I get started, I can usually include a story or photo from my own experience with the issue they're addressing.
Midori - Glad to see you here again on the featured dashboard. You've given some great tips. Reminds me of something that Jeremy told me a while ago...
Which, Mr. Blanton, has been working great for me, and your newest suggestion for a blog post topic is something that I will add to my list.
Midori- That is one heck of a list and a very helpful one at that ! When in doubt write about anything going on in your local area that would engage a reader !
These are awesome... You could create posts for the rest of the year with these categories. :-)
We could blog twice a day and not exhaust what topics are out there. Thanks for sharing your list. Note to Active Rain, on WordPress I can save drafts very easily. I would love to see a new button on the left side that says drafts. Sometimes I get epiphany moments and want to write it before i research it. Having a designated folder would be nice.
I think this list should help anyone who is experiencing writer's block! Some days it seems the brain is just taking a day off!
Midori...
This is a wonderful list that I could have used this morning as I had a bad case of blogger's cramp!
I like this list and want to expand my subject material! Thanks for spelling this all out!
Midori - you have provided some great suggestions for all the members and should be a great help to all the newbies.
Now that was good information. Do you know of anyway to send posts to several blogs at one time ?
Great list,Midori. This should get a new blogger up and started. To the new blogger, remember you can't get better at blogging if you never start.
Great ideas. I'm going to interview the mayor this week!
There is so much to write about when it comes to blogging. I will never run out of things to write about
Great post-I love blogging and there is much to blog about.
Midori
Congratualtions on the featured post. This is a great list as we can all get "writers block" at some time or the other.
Best wishes
Sharon
Great list Midori... Some times its a simple mind block for a new topic. This list will help clear the blockage.
This is a great list. I was actually wondering the same thing myself as I am new to this process. I will just keep writing!
Thank you!
Great post Midori - another great resource for content is sitting hidden in ones own email sent folder. There's soooo much knowledge, experience and subject matter just sitting there and waiting to be tapped into and shared with millions. A lifetime of potential content and it's already been partially written. Just my 2 cents sense :-))
Great Post!!! Tons of great information for blogging. I am new to this so it helps alot! Thanks
Client stories are always great food for thought, Midori. Awesome post. You've created a great list for anyone who has hit that writer's block or doesn't know exactly what to write. Basically, write whatever inspires you to write. You never know what will strike a chord. Always think of your audience and who you want to read your blog. It may be a blog geared towards buyers one day, sellers another and fellow real estate professionals on yet another day. It depends.
Enjoyable post and full of good stuff. Have a great week!
thanks for posting. i use to have the same trouble then i said to myself, that i will just treat my blog like a diary and something's bound to come out.
Midori,
Nice tips and encouragement. It is so important to just start blogging and get your feet wet- jump in so to speak. It works out in time and I find that with time, you are always finding different approaches, new ways to say things and new things to say.
Great advice. Blog about what you know. What you have a conversation about. Well put.
Midori, thanks for the great list. I've just bookmarked this blog. My first blog suggestion came from a fellow Stager. I related a recent Staging experience to him and he said "you should write a blog about it". Thanks to Fernando and Thank you Midori.
Thanks.. I often experience writer's block myself.
Midori, a GREAT list for those that get writer's cramp now and then. Certainly should spark the imagination. I personally liked reading about people's bugs in their backyard this past week LOL, so there is no end to ideas!!!
Midori --- WOW --- this is fantastic --- I am bookmarking it so that I can refer back to it. Thanks so much and congrats on the "gold star" --- you certainly deserved it. Have a great week.
BTW, if you have not been by my post today, please stop by ---"Who is the Oldest Active Rainer?" --- certainly not because you would even come close, but if you would re-blog my post, it may help us find the Oldest Active Rainer.
Midori - thanks for the great resource, I re-blogged your post :)
Midori! This is a GREAT LIST!!!!!! It is just perfect! and I am rebloggin it now! :)
Midori, no kidding - just write. Too many of us get stuck thinking too much about what others think. I agree - just write and feel inspired when writing. The rest will take care of itself!
Midori - AMEN! Just blog - I was just contacted by the Dallas Morning News about my recent blog post regarding my home city. THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS! It may be cliche, but like Nike says, "Just Do It"!
Midori, thanks for sharing this with us and provide us some trigger points for us to break through our creative writers block! Just write is right, but sometimes we have to have good content to keep the readers coming back!
Midori: Thanks for all the great tips. Sometimes I'm blogging challenged and it's easier to comment. I'll have to save this list for future potential blogs. Take care.
Nice job Midori....certainly a great list to get anyone started. With the great weather I am starting to write some neighborhood reviews which should pay dividends down the line.
Great post, Midori. This is a constant topic, and you've given some great ideas! It's posts like this that really hepled me get started a couple of years ago. Our journey always begins with the first step!
Midori - These are great tips/topics, especially for someone like me who just started blogging. I feel like I have a lot to say right now, but I may hit a dead end in the future, so I'll bookmark this for reference.
Exactly!!! I have a friend afraid to blog and she has a ton of experience to draw from. I hate to see here waste all that knowledge. Get it out and share. I know as soon as she does she will find more and more topics to build on. I find logging has the proverbial domino effect! One leads to the next and so on and so on. Great post!
THANK YOU FOR THIS INFORMATION BLOG! I often have writers block and it is helpful to have some of these reminders for me to brainstorm!
Great list Midori! I think I'll bookmark it for those times when I feel like I have writer's block!
Excellent post, Midori. There are SO many things to blog about. For me it often comes down to time...
All great ideas. I can't wait to put some of them in practice.
Midori,
These are some really good ideas for not only the newbie but also for those of us that get blog fog on occasions. Thanks for the suggestions.
Midori - Thanks! I've bookmarked this post to refer to during my "blog fog" days (great term, by the way!) Since joining AR I've become a photo nerd....trips out with family, even to restaurants, now involve me toting my camera around so I can enhance my blog content. Just last nite we went to a great restaurant.....more of a destination restaurant, outside grounds were incredible....hmm....took a bunch of pics....haven't posted them yet....gotta run! Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Midori - "Think local ... and just write." That pretty well sums it up. Sometimes we overcomplicate things. When we just let the thoughts flow is when we write some of our best posts.
Midori,
That's a great list. I've covered some of the topics, but not all.
Gotta run, I'm on a scavenger hunt. Best of luck to you!
Midori - This is going to be bookmarked immediately. There are just some days when I go brain dead and this is a great list to reference for some fresh new topics.
This is great info. I'll have to bookmark this for when I am stuck. I am also including this in my scavenger hunt.
These are some great ideas and a perfect post for my scavenger hunt! Thank you!
I too found you thru the Scavenger Hunt and I'm so glad I did - a wealth of ideas!!! Thanks so much :0)
I'll second that (or third) - from Scavenger Hunt. I think I have done most except the historic ones - need to put that one my list. :) ~Rita
Midori - This is a great list of topics. It's always nice to have something to think about when the writer's block kicks in.
I've had this bookmarked for a while now to later return to and the scavenger hunt has now brought me back here. Thanks Midori!
Thanks Midori! You gave some really unique ideas that I hadn't seen before. Will definitely keep this post for future reference. Love your name, by the way! : )
Midori, thanks for a host of great new ideas - found you thru the scavenger hunt.
