When I was a little girl I hated my name! It was unique and hard to pronounce. I knew if someone wrote Midori on the bathroom wall at school that they were talking about me.
People would ask me what kind of name is that? I have heard of that before? What does that mean?
AAAAAhhh, here we go again, I would have to explain it means green in Japanese. It was a Japanese name for a girl. OK, we have Midori Liquor , The ice skater, Midori and Midori the violinist! OK you get it lots and lots of Midori's.
It's just way too much attention for a young girl to take! I always wanted to be in the background but throughout my childhood I stuck out like a sore thumb! I wasn't very comfortable with myself until my senior year in high school.

And then everything changed! Sales...At 16 I had the opportunity to sell cosmetics for my favorite drug store. Boy did I like the attention, I loved the people and wow, I made lots of money for a 16 year old. Once I learned the value of a dollar I wanted everyone to know my name! Midori Midori Midori.......words I love to hear!
If you know me well, you will here me say, everything I do is for a purpose. In other words, everything I put effort in, I really try and make it count. Blogging is no different, I have specific goals in my mind. I know what audience I want to attract, I know the topics I want to write about, I know what message I want to get across.

One goal that I am getting closer to achieving is to be #1 in the yahoo search engine for the search word Midori. A pretty tough goal to achieve. Imagine being found on-line by your first name among 3,600,000 search results. Guess what I am sooooo close. What is amazing is I am on page 2 #16 for the search word Midori and also can be found #57.
How did that happen? Would it surprise you if I said Activerain!.....I doubt it!.....
We hear these success stories all the time.......That's right on Yahoo my profile on Activerain is #16........... My website is # 57.......
Tomorrow's homework....google....I think I need some work there!

Jacob-Thank you! You know how cruel kids can be and I was a kid in the 70's! Now I appreciate my name! Thanks for stopping by and I do love love your posts!
Beth-Yes I will keep you posted! I find it exciting and I could not have done it without Activerain! Thank you for stopping by.
Marlene-Thank you for the compliment and for stopping by. I think as a kid, I held myself back because of the way I looked and my name. In the 70's it was a hard time to be part asian. Now in 2007 I appreciate the fact I am different with a unique name.
Bob and Carolin- Thank You....and thanks for stopping by.
Dan-I love my name just as a kid didn't appreciate the jokes that came with it! Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
Randy-This is crazy but I read the honolulu paper online a while back and there was a woman who passed away named Midori Miller age 66. It floored me! I would love to meet another Midori. I think it would be really interesting. Also, another time, some gentleman contacted me from California his daughter's name is Midori Miller, a very young girl. I too thought that was very cool. Thank you Randy for stopping by, it's always a pleasure!
Lysa-You made me laugh, I was thinking of when I cringe, usually its a seller call or a misbehaving realtor. It's true sometimes I do cringe........ Yes I believe I will get there and that is something to be proud of. I have never really put effort before but now I am on a mission. Thank you my friend for stoppingy by!
Neal-Ahhhhh, a tribute in the bathroom. Love it! Won't be the first time, JUST KIDDING! Not sure about google either but I am going to work it hard! Thanks for stopping by.
Hey, Midori. Our names is what make us stand out from the crowd. That's why I kept my last name-Lukyanova (luki-ano-va). Sure, many people will mispronounce, but if they ever learn it they never forget it.
And congrats on search engine placement. Obviously, with my first name Anna, that's so common, it is wishful thinking.
My guess would have been Luk-yano-va- Anna!
I like your name Midori and it's good to know that it means green in Japanese.
I used to hate not being able to find my name on pencils, key chains and the like. Now, I love my name... I think it was really popular back in the early 1900's but not too many my age..I was the only one in my school, though we did have a Gwenevia.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
Anna-Oh yeah we definitely have different names, I am happy I married otherwise it would have continued to be Midori Terwilliger, the kids had a field day with that! That is what I used to tell people, usually upon initial contact, once you learn it you will never forget!
Anna is a tough search, I am just lucky, all those years I thought I was cursed, now has become quite the treasure! Thank you for stopping by
